The New American Hero

The New American Hero initiative identifies and rewards exceptional charter school teachers who greatly impact the lives of students.  The Florida Charter School Alliance is partnering with Clarion Council to offer this one-of-a-kind teacher recognition program to spotlight those teachers who are standing on the front lines and impacting students’ lives every day.

How it works:

  • Identify exceptional teachers through established criteria
  • Reward those teachers for outstanding effort and results

Award:

  • $1,000 awarded to the New American Hero chosen at each participating school
  • $5,000 awarded yearly to a New American Hero selected from all participating schools
  • Publicity – Heroes will be celebrated through press announcements that share their stories

Results:

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to give students the best opportunity to succeed in school, be accepted to higher education institutions or vocations of their choice and secure a meaningful career. The results will be evident by higher graduation rates, active citizenship, a stronger commitment to American core values, and higher performing students who will better compete in the global community. This will be accomplished by:

-Encouraging teachers within the charter school system to perform at an exceptional level, thereby delivering higher quality education

-Encouraging high-performing teachers outside of the charter school system to consider a charter school career

-Initiating competitive pressure to low performing public and charter schools to raise their standards
